So I have been working hard on the Jim Cummings portfolio section of the site, trying to get the listing of his most popular characters and roles up. Now as the man has hundreds and hundreds of credits to his name, it’s going to take me a while so I’m going to just do a few whenever I can. Gotta squeak work on this site around my day job, you know how it is.

What this means for you is that the portfolio section of the site will be incomplete for a while but will update very slowly as I have a chance to make new pages. I’m not doing them in any logical order, just as I feel like it.

On the plus side, instead of a boring old list, the new portfolio pages are pretty slick. Each one lists the project (TV show, movie, etc) that Jim Cummings was in, who he played and then (wherever possible) pictures of the character, video clips and where you can get the DVD or download (if the item is available on DVD or download) and then a section for comments so that you can add your favorite quotes or other memories of the characters making it interactive. It’s a lot more work per show than a simple list but I think you’ll really like the result.

A few random pages are up already so if you have a chance, why not take a look at them and let me know what you think.

Here’s what’s up so far:

If you take a look at the right hand side of the site, you’ll notice some new little ad blocks. This new advertising is done through Project Wonderful which allows advertisers to bid for ad space. Just like an eBay auction, you can put in how much you want to pay for ad space and, as long as you are the highest bid, it’s yours!

However, since we only just set up this ad space today, they don’t have any traffic stats set up for this website yet. While they start collecting traffic stats to use to sell our ad space, we wanted to give loyal readers a chance to get a piece of the action.

The current bid to advertise on our site is… $0! That’s right, free! You can try it out for a little while and see if the ads are worth it with no charge whatsoever until something bids at a price higher than you. Pretty cool, right?

If you want to sign up for one of these free ads, you can do so here.

Update: We are still playing around and working on getting the bugs out with this service so we apologize for any trouble this caused for those that signed up before. The free ads now get even more exposure as they appear above the fold (woohoo!) but they are also a little smaller so that we could extend this opportunity to more sites. To do this, we had to cancel the existing bids so you may need to set up your ad again (sorry!). Also, on the navbar you will notice a nice new, very large skyscraper sized ad. This one we are actually charging for so, while it’s not free, it is very cheap. You can bid on that space here.

Thank you very much for your support of this site!

Sorry for the lack of updates. It being the time of year when just about every show in on break, things are little slow. I have some tricks up my sleeve but I am trying to ration them so I have a little content each week.

That said, if anyone at Disney wants to crack down on movie piracy I *highly recommend* that they set up an alert on Google Blogs for the keyword “Jim Cummings.” With a few exceptions (this blog included) just about every result is a Disney or similar movie available for illegal download.

Exhibit A

I mean, not to be a spoil sport, but they are being really obvious. Seems like a really easy way to catch these people if you ask me. . .

So, suddenly a few weeks ago, every single one of the subscribers to this website canceled their subscription. I combed the archive and tried to figure out what horribly offensive thing I may have said to cause everyone to leave at once and I couldn’t figure it out.

Until today. See, there was a new version of WordPress a few days ago and when we upgraded the site software, it deactivated all of our plugins, one of which is helps you to subscribe to our feed.

If that is Greek (or, in this case, geek) to you, no worries. All it really means is that you may have been accidentally unsubscribed from the site because of this. I have set up a page that has several of the ways that you can subscribe to this site (including email which we had not offered before) so if you want to be notified whenever this site is updated in any way, please select one of the options here.

Thanks for your patience while we work these kinks out!

While buttons and banners are still forthcoming, anyone who wants to Join the Obsession and become a member of The Cult of Cummings can get a head and join early.

The Cut of Cummings is a club and community for Jim Cummings fans so whether you run a site about a JC show or other voice over actors or just love Jim Cummings, anyone is welcome to join! If you are one of those people who doesn’t do anything without wondering what is in it for you, membership means that you get access to additional features such as message boards and more and it also gives you a chance to promote your website as your link will be featured on the site each time you visit or leave a comment. Pretty cool, huh?

Instead of The Jim Cummings Fan Club, though, we are now The Jim Cummings Fan Portal. Very web 2.0 of us, right? In other words, we hope to be your first stop for all the best JC information and to help you lead to the other related good stuff on the web.

In the old days of the site, I used to have to manually add each new member but, thanks to Yahoo’s MyBlogLog, you can go ahead and get started without having to wait for me. Just click here and you can sign up.

I look forward to seeing you there!

In 1995, my brother and myself searched the internet and were appalled to find that our favorite entertainer, the brilliant and prolific voice over actor Jim Cummings had not a single fan site devoted to him. Sure, there are plenty of splendid actors that don’t have fan sites but a man such as Mr. Cummings who has touched so very many lives and many so many people laugh with his delightful voices deserved a little corner on the World Wide Web.

So we created The Cult of Cummings, called so because of the secret knowledge my brother and I shared, the small look we would give each other when we knew, without a doubt, that the voice on that commercial or in that cartoon was JC. We felt like part of a secret organization, all devoted to the worship of this talented man; a man that was everywhere but that it seemed only a secret few knew about.

For a while, the site was very popular. As the first and only Jim Cummings fan site, we had tons of visitors each day and I was swarmed with emails and applications to “Join the Obsession.” Even people we hardly knew off-line would approach us with amazed expressions as they said, “I stumbled upon your website. I had no idea all those voices were Jim Cummings!” We would smile at this, knowing we had increased awareness and appreciation of Jim Cummings’ incredible talents.

In 2001, I got a job as a web designer and the more skilled in website making I became, the more I realized the free web templates I had used to design the original site made it look ghetto and I took it down for repairs. Then four years passed.

Somehow in that time I had, unfortunately, developed some sort of a social life and suddenly that seemed more important that my various websites. But have no fear! It will never happen again as I have now sworn my life to the geekdom I had previously abandoned. So now, after nearly 4 years of being down for re-designing, I have “revamped” the site with this pathetically boring design. Before you chastise me, let it be known that I had a much more exciting design going with the “cult” theme but people told me it look like I was a stalker, so I decided this boring design was better than nothing until I have time to teach myself flash. Rest assured the content of the site is all reorganized and brand spankin’ new and it’s only a matter of time until the design catches up.

We will be under construction for the next few months (years?) so I appreciate your patience. I look forward to converting a whole new legion of JC fans to the cuase and getting to reconnect with some of you that I knew from the early days of the site. I think you will find that all manner of interesting things have been going on in my life as well.

I appreciate your taking a look and your help in getting this site back up to its former glory!
